"Apologize" (likewise spelled "Apologise" internationally[ citation needed ]) is a vocal written by Ryan Tedder, which first appeared on Timbaland's 2nd studio anthology Shock Value. It was so released as the third unmarried from that anthology (fourth in Australia), forth with the original recording by OneRepublic. It accordingly besides served as the lead unmarried for OneRepublic's debut album Dreaming Out Loud, produced by Greg Wells. Timbaland's version omits the guitar solo after the second verse in the original, and includes an extra line of percussion, new backing vocals, and added audio samples, in addition to sound mixing and a few other minor changes. The song was the biggest radio airplay hit in the history of the Mainstream Top forty chart in North America, with 10,394 plays in one calendar week, until its tape was broken past Leona Lewis's "Bleeding Honey", which was too co-written by Tedder.[2] The song was a major striking internationally, reaching number one in 16 countries, including Australia, Austria, Canada, Germany, Italian republic, New Zealand, Sweden, Turkey, and kingdom of the netherlands, as well as staying at number one for 8 sequent weeks on the Billboard Popular 100 chart. The vocal peaked at number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, staying in the top-x for 25 weeks, and spent 13 weeks at number i in Canada.[3]
"Apologize" earned the ring a Grammy Honour nomination for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Grouping with Vocals and was ranked number 50 on the list of the Billboard Hot 100's All-Fourth dimension Superlative Songs list from the nautical chart's kickoff fifty years. It spent 25 consecutive weeks in the tiptop 10, the longest stay there for any song since "Smooth" by Santana, which spent 30 weeks in 1999.[4] Information technology was also ranked number 10 on Billboard'south Hot 100 Songs of the Decade.[five]

An official video associated with the remix was filmed on September xix, 2007, and released in early on October.[half dozen] The video premiered on VH1's Superlative 20 Countdown on October 27, 2007. The video was directed by Robert Hales and was shot in a recording studio showing OneRepublic performing the song. The video also includes scenes from a New year's Eve countdown political party, starring actor Brian A. "Apologize" was OneRepublic's breakout hit. In the United states of america, "Repent" peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 for four not-consecutive weeks, showtime blocked from the top spot for two weeks by Chris Brown'southward "Kiss Kiss" and so for two weeks by Alicia Keys' "No Ane". It spent xi weeks at number three and 25 weeks inside the height ten and peaked at number iii for 10 weeks on the Hot 100 Airplay. It besides topped the Billboard Pop 100 and became the third single from Shock Value to have topped the nautical chart.
